Social Security Disability Benefits and Doctor’s Visits

To receive Social Security disability benefits, claimants must demonstrate that they are attending doctor’s visits regularly. Unfortunately, the Social Security Administration (SSA) doesn’t provide any subsidization for claimants to receive those regular check-ups. If medical evaluations are required to process an applicant’s claim, the SSA will schedule a consultative exam (CE) with a medical professional who is an independent contractor for the SSA. These exams are largely cursory and do not provide any ongoing medical treatment for claimants.

There are some existing options and ways to obtain medical treatment.

  • Many states offer insurance options for people. Each state has different requirements and qualifications for their insurance programs.
  • In Kentucky, access to health insurance was expanded with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). To get information on qualifications, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services is a great resource. You can also visit the local Office for Community Based Services to find out if you qualify for insurance.

To be successful in a disability claim, it is critical to treat and to treat consistently. Insurance is crucial to maintaining consistent treatment.

If you have questions about the Social Security disability claims process, contact Molly Burke Law Office today to set up your free, no-obligation consultation.
